I'm almost certain this screenplay was originally about Robin Hood. All the elements are there - our protagonist is master of the bow instead of the sword, he's noble and chivalrous to a fault, he bonds for life with a giant man by beating him in a stick fight, our antagonist rules from a castle that's sneaked into and out of an inordinate number of times throughout the film, our love interest is a virgin skilled in fending off advances by our antagonist, the film climaxes in a daring yet stealthy assault on the castle by our hero and his motley band of warriors and thieves and one very special little boy, etc.
Factual inaccuracy: gunpowder was not invented by a barbarian in the time before the pyramids.
Did you notice? Michael Clarke Duncan's dreadlocks were actually a prosthetic.
Factual inaccuracy: at no time in history was Russian Roulette played with a poisonous snake, six urns, and a rotating table.
Trivia: in the film, King Memnon is laid low by an arrow. This is likely a reference to King Harold's end at the Battle of Hastings, as both rulers were first told to "catch this!"
Did you notice? The Scorpion King's ill-fated half-brother was played by loveable Native American actor and star of TV's Renegade, Branscombe Richmond, further clouding the waters surrounding The Rock's ethnicity.
Trivia: for much of human history, it was the role of men to nurse the young, since women still lacked nipples as recently as the time before the pyramids :( |
