Is major league baseball viable in Colorado?

As a Rockies fan since the franchise was incepted, and despite this season's "success," I'm still leaning towards no. I know people blame management, but stacking the lineup for power earned exactly one wildcard berth, and pitcher after pitcher after pitcher has discovered the hard way that Coors Field is where arms go to die. The Marlins have had two World Series wins with two different owners. The Diamondbacks, an even younger expansion franchise in the very same division, have a ring. The Rockies? That one measly wildcard slot. Ten years ago.

The humidor has helped keep the ball in the park, but is it "fair"?

I say yes. Baseball doesn't have consistent park dimensions and the grounds crew has been changing the level of grass and traction of the infield to the home team's advantage forever. The management IS horrible, though. Somebody might say something like, "That contract set the team back 4 years" for a random team and everyone goes "har, har!" but in the Rock's case, the contracts they gave Hampton and Neagle... people will be talking about that 100 years from now.

The Blue Jays gave A.J. Burnett a five year deal this off-season and fans and writers in all of North America flipped their shit. Statheads in Mexico City responsed with a hardy "Que???" Hampton got, what, eight? If I remember right the Rockies aren't still paying any of that, but I think Hampton and Neagle soured them from the entire free agent market for years thereafter.

If Colorado re-signs Holliday and Fogg and the other kids, instead of selling them off I think the fans will continue to support the team. The people out here love the Broncos and Avs. There's plenty of D-1 college football and while I don't know how the Nuggets draw, they are at least discussed at length on the air when they are doing well. I don't think crying poor is going to fly out here.
