Client story #1 by Fussbett 07/24/2006, 3:38am PDT
Our salesman warned us that this client, who we'll be meeting shortly, is "creative".

"I know he's creative because he told me so several times, and also mentioned that he was previously an art director, and he even told me what brand of glasses he wears. Apparently they're the creative type of glasses."

So he comes in, hilariously shlubby with a golf course-branded golf shirt, cellphone holster, little faggy daytimer, and curly thinning hair. But those glasses! You can tell it was the one aspect of his appearance that he really thought about -- but unfortunately his thinking yielded the wrong result. Instead of looking creative, he looked like a pretentious piece of shit. A thick and wide brown rim that runs across the top of small squared-off lenses, rimless underneath.

Then he told me and the video editor all about how creative he was and how he really understood the creative process, and that we shouldn't worry about being really creative ourselves -- because he used to be an art director! WOW, THANKS, THIS IS LIKE BREATHING AIR FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!

Before leaving on Friday, he talked about how he'd be our best client ever (because of the creativity), and of course he's totally wrong. A good client doesn't book himself into the edit suite all week, every day, to sit at the editor's elbow and advise on the whole process. That's called being a cocksucker. Easy mistake to make.

Long week ahead. :(
