I never go to shows. This was the first one for me in about ten years.
It was a tiny cramped space full of sweaty anime nerds and teenagers and teenage sweaty anime nerds, many of them fat, and clumsy. The Japanese fans in the audience cleverly took over the balcony before the show started so they could escape the cesspool below. It got so hot and foul that the band left the stage repeatedly for air, sometimes after only one song. They started exactly on time, to the befuddlement of my host who didn't realize that Japanese groups don't treat their fans like shit. Or maybe its thier genuine punk roots, I don't know.
It was absolutely great. Everyone tried to sing along even though nobody had any fucking idea what the lyrics meant, and the band kept asking if everyone was ok.
A room full of my peeps! I'm not surprised that they smell awful. Even in small groups with lots of room between them it's frequently iffy. They're so woeful and embarrassing. I wonder what it's like playing to a room full of people you laughed at in high school.
I think it's great that people were singing along. Nothing of the kind happened at the shows I went to recently. I felt very lonely hollering along to Steven Seagal, and then I stopped (so as not to make a fuss for the people I was with.) It's a little bit sad. Earnestness is illegal! You will be dour and untouched by the monster energy rush around you! Whose fucking idea was that?!
