Writer/Director Alexandre Aja is developing quite the oeuvre. First I saw his treatise against homosexuality, Haute Tension, and now The Hills Have Eyes, his latest piece which comes out hard against the other greatest fear of normal people: being handicapped. The message is clear: unchecked, the disabled will rape, kill and eat the able-bodied at will. They look like monsters, so it makes sense. Is there any better symbolism than the milquetoast liberal pacifist transformed into a hero, stabbing Sloth from Goonies in the esophagus with an American flag? "This one is for the 50 states and the 23 chromosomes!!!" He didn't say that exactly, but it was implied.
I saw the unrated version and it was crazy gory. Worse than (rated R) Hostel. Unfortunately the writing is awful. |
