Subject: how catastrophes are made

Good Morning

This mornings mess illustrates the importance of every employees
responsibility to sign off his or her sessions properly when leaving at the
end of day. This also quite clearly illuminates what occurs when the last
person remining in the department does not take a minute to check if his
co-workers have left any sessions open.

Having said that, the responsibility of ensuring that the backup procedure
goes through smoothly is mine and mine alone. When running backup, it is my
duty to ensure so work is left open and to communicate to anybody who leaves
work open that doing so is entirely unnaceptable. I apologize to my fellow
employees for the work lost and time wasted this morning.

One of the unfortunate side-effects of having to clean-up any open work is
that it heavily impacts members of our organization who work from home
outside of business hours. Restrictions are placed upon them in order not to
confuse them with careless employees and ensure that backup has time to
complete before we open for business the next day.

Right now, backup is starting from 5:45AM to 6:15AM and should be done by
6:40AM. For those of you coming in early, please do not sign in before 7AM.

Please take the time right now to review the policy on sessions left open.

>Then this genius emails me and CC's it to the President, the VP (who is my boss) and the Branch GM

-----------
I realize the difficulty that leaving a terminal on creates.
But in the backup procedure the person doing backup should do a chkres and
check terminals
which is a very simple procedure to terminate that terminal.
There is some cases where they cannot be terminated but very few.
If I look at the names on the screen today it is very obvious that they do
not have lap tops
at home and are not actively working and should be terminated before backup.
This would cause less confusion in the morning.
