| So I'm reading the nation the other day and suddenly I find this article singing the praise of V because it's new breed of action movie. A movie with a social conscience! Never mind for a moment that an action movie kinda needs... I dunno... ACTION?
But it's really weird how liberals are getting so sick of bush that they'll cheer for a designated hero who, once a woman disobeys him, kidnaps her, beats her, humiliates her, waterboards her, makes her eat food that sewer rats won't touch, and once he decides he's finished and she asks him why he did it he says, "It was for your own good. I did it because I love you." It's also creepy that liberals are liking it because I see a lot of the bush administration in V's methods. Especially the use of buzzwords that people all respond positively to like pavlov's dogs to make really illogical actions sound appealing. We've gotta blow up parliament! Why? For freedom! Freedom for what? Ideas! What are the ideas? Freedom! Now hurry up and put on your terrorist costume and start marching towards the army's gun emplacements. Meanwhile his bigger priority is using the resulting confusion to settle his own personal vendettas. Not to mention the whole thing with the girl's parents. Her mom wanted to leave (for canada) but her dad said doing that would mean surrendering the country. So they become activists and fail miserably and get sent to gitmo. The message, as I see it, is that the only option left is terrorism. If you're not with us, your only choice is to be with the terrorists. Now I know the film is just a stupid comic book adaptation cashing in on the frustrated liberal demographic, my point is that I'm worried that the anti-bush backlash might send liberals happily into the arms of a candidate whose views and voting record go totally against their beliefs, but who's the most wonderful thing in the world because he's not W. |
