EURO FORCE first impressions (geeky) by Fussbett 03/15/2006, 6:41pm PST
EURO FORCE is a booster pack, not an expansion, so it's much better that Special Forces. No separate executable, it's really just new maps with the new army: the Europeans. The downside that still remains is where servers will likely elect to run a Euro-only map rotation, or not run those maps at all. So I don't get to play on my favourite servers when I feel like wearing a beret. A small thing, who cares.

The Euro Force army gets all-new first-level weapons which is great except I wonder why I'd pick these "low" level weapons when I have better ones unlocked. Is a FAMAS better than my G36E? The engineer gets a pump-action shotgun, which would certainly be worse than the Jackhammer or MP7... So what I'm getting at is that I'm not using any of the Euro-specific weapons.

The three maps are all big and have tonnes of vehicles. There's no reason for you to ever be without wheels, and in fact I could almost grab a tank at will. One map has two fighters and two choppers, one map has a fighter/bomber, and the other has no air assets and is already a huge favourite, from my early reckon: the battle takes place in and around the Great Wall of China. You basically fighting in a castle. That sounds cool, right? It is. Being an air fan I really love the map called Operation Smokescreen. A big flat burned out desert landscape with lots of smoke and errant heat sources and WINDMILLS!!!

The Euro choppers handle very differently and I like the fact that they switched it up. It sinks like a stone, can't pitch very well, but rolls like a champ. These changes lead to veteran pilots rolling the chopper onto it's back as it leaves the tarmac (followed by screaming that EA SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in text chat and, I presume, a flipped keyboard). The Euro chopper also has an INCREDIBLE gunner gun. Slow explosive shells like the MEC chopper, but more powerful. It seems these choppers should be used as low-hovering anti-personnel and anti-light vehicle, not dipsy-doodling and sweeping down to hit tanks. But this is largely untested.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is your basic fighter. It's definitely less agile than the J-10, and even maybe the F-35. I think they fixed the squirrely missiles. The end.
