Mao told me about this when I asked why everyone hates my lovely Trillian.
You have to fuck around with plugins for stuff like tabs and autoreconnect, this leaves the exciting option that it can be one day properly pimped out. It connects everything when you change your status in the client, rather than having a sign-on button, which took me twenty minutes to divine.
There are no server windows like in Trillian so you don't know why you can't connect ever. It can't do video but neither can the free Trillian. You need to copy and paste a whole new messenger plugin .dll for multiple connections this includes IRC so I have a really stupid looking IRC(2) so I can leave porn password requests running constantly. This makes having billions of layers of security through various secret instant messager handles that are reserved for your inner circle of friends very difficult.
It used to be that the various program managers of IM apps would demand changes of their staff that specifically caused a break in Trillian. The people behind Trillian were always smarter than these middle manager nobodies (I like to put a face on the faceless) and within 48 hours Trillian would work again.
Does this still happen? Or has the guy who thought I'd like to watch videos through the latest version of fucking AIM finally given up?
It seems AOL has changed their policy on that completely:
NEW YORK, March 6 (Reuters) - AOL said on Monday it planned to let software and service developers create their own versions of its AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), which analysts said was a significant move for a company that has traditionally cordoned off its services.

Open Source IM Client: GAIM. Worth installing? by Fullofkittens 03/03/2006, 5:47pm PST
GAIM historically sucks and is the worst AIM alternative possible. by Creexul :( 03/03/2006, 6:00pm PST
What's the best AIM alternative possible? by Fullofkittens 03/03/2006, 6:16pm PST
You just described Trillian. by Fussbett 03/03/2006, 6:45pm PST
Trillian is the buggiest and least functional AIM alternative out there. NT by Creexul :( 03/04/2006, 5:32am PST
"Preferably something that lets me use MSN and AIM in one app." -- FOK NT by Fussbett 03/04/2006, 7:55am PST
I can think of something that uses MSN and AIM in two apps. NT by Creexul :( 03/04/2006, 8:19am PST
MSN is too much load for his CPU. I'm not saying FoK is without problems. NT by Fussbett 03/04/2006, 2:43pm PST
It's a lot worse than AIM, for sure. It hit probably 40% of my CPU. NT by Fullofkittens 03/04/2006, 3:24pm PST
Sure you don't have malware? NT by Entropy Stew 03/08/2006, 2:50pm PST
Anything's possible... but this is a newly formatted drive and install. by Fullofkittens 03/08/2006, 5:38pm PST
