I've only bought one so far.
Birds by Bic Runga
Bic continues her Radioheadish habit of annoying any fans she might have won with the style of her previous album. This time she trades Beautiful Collision's mellow country-rock thing (you can forget about the accessible pop of Drive) for slow dances and drag-assedy blues. All her albums have one thing in common, though: she's still yet to write about something other than love or love lost. She carries the banal material with her (admittedly unique) voice, now with a new twist: she reaches down for notes she can't sing.
*sigh*
Overall, I haven't really listened to it enough to form a firm opinion, but for now I'll give it four bulbs:

Mood: Drowsy
Music: It's Over - Bic Runga
Oh, hey, I also bought this. If you like Breakout clones, then this should beat the best Breakout clone you've ever played by a wide margin. Apart from the cheerful art, strong sound design, and bat-ball interaction that actually makes sense, (most of) the levels have some twist or gimmick, so you (usually) don't just break bricks. It also features beepedy-boops from my favourite sine-smiths, the Maniacs Of Noise. So. |
