Do you find that you use the two drives very much? I've wondered if it would be a selling point.
I assume you're referring to the optical drives here. Yeah, I do, but I'm lazy. If I take a disc out of the drive for more than five minutes and if the case isn't immediately in my field of view, I end up leaving it face up on the desk until my girlfriend blows through and in the midst of "cleaning up," tosses them all in piles with no regard to scratches whatsoever. Plus, I thought it'd be good to have two drives of differing brands just in case one chokes on the copy protection for whatever reason. it was an extra $60, so I thought it was worth it.
Yes. Onboard sound will use about 5-8% of your CPU, resulting in a 5-15% frame rate hit. Save up for Creative's X-Fi XtremeMusic, OR NOT and get a budget card based on VIA's Envy24PT. You fucking peasant, you make me sick.
Well, I bought a $20 sound card from CompUSA. It plays sound. I think. Close enough.
I PSH those who enjoy quality sound from their computer.
The first thing is: is the machine stable? Also, where do you live, because I'm coming to visit. If the machine is running stable in that ambient heat, I certainly would not worry about it. I suppose that a 20-24 degree difference does seem high.
The machine seems to be rock solid stable. I've run Prime95 for 8 hours and again for 12 hours with no errors or warnings either time. No strange errors, no mysterious shutdowns.
I live in Honolulu. It's been raining all week long. :(
Failing that, it's possible that you miss-applied the heatsink/paste: the main thing is that you only want enough paste so that there is no air between the heat spreader on your cpu and the base of the heat sink. This means a thin even layer.
It's remotely possible that the metal plate that is the top of your processor - the heat spreader - has become slightly detached from the CPU core itself.
I just don't want to run the risk of significantly shortening the lifespan of my processor by running it constantly hotter than it should run. Even though the spec sheet says that it's okay running at that temp, all of the forums and online hardware places seem to run much cooler, even though that may not be the actual mean. I guess I'll just live with it either way, though.
My adapter for the ATX12V connector finally came today, so I hooked it up, closed the case, booted it up and started running Prime95. When I get home from work, I guess I'll find out if this new case really does make a difference one way or another.
Don't worry about 'killing' your processor. All it has to do is last 3-5 years, if that. Did your machine run Prime OK? |
