A TALE OF TWO SISTERS
From Korea, Japan's Mexico, comes this stylish horror drama shot against the floral prints of victorian-era wallpaper and decor. After I got over my love of the cinematography and set design, I was left with my same old boring criticisms of mediocre asian horror movies. I try to be original and say new things as much as possible, but how can I when these filmmakers in Asia don't listen to me and repeat the same mistakes?
The scary hair girl from Ringu, it-was-only-a-dream, multiple personalities, unexplained random ghost plot elements, and a fucking jumbled timeline; every hack element was present. A Tale of Two Sisters is a horror movie parody, but so perfectly shot, people take it seriously. "Masterpiece" is mentioned FIVE TIMES on the first page alone of the IMDB user reviews. Like CSI, this movie helps stupid people feel smart, because they can decipher the purposely tangled plot.
But do remember.. if you don't understand the plot after the first viewing, a repeat viewing is more than advised.. I personally didn't have time for this since it was late so I flicked through scenes on the DVD, some numerous times until I had a good synopsis in my head and after looking on the net, seemed Ihad pretty much nailed it on the widely agreed interpretation. And the satisfaction from solving a puzzle like that is wonderful. FUCK, THEN WHAT HAPPENED? DID YOU GET HUNGRY AND EAT SOME TOAST? Great review. So basically this movie is like a Rubik's Cube, if Rubik was Korean and instead of inventing a puzzle, he ripped off Ringu and Kairo and Memento and other movies. So enjoy that. |
