A friend of mine who is very bad with computers was finally buying a new system. He's calling me up and asking questions like "Is AMD good?", but mostly he's doing a fine job of just comparing all the many numbers and arriving at common sense conclusions which I would back up. Then we get to the video card and he says it's "an ATI Radeon", which I say is probably fine, but I don't know much about the current ATI line. However, an ATI card in a new computer has to be decent right? My 9700 only recently became unusable (Call of Duty 2).
So I show up at his place with CoD2 and Far Cry, ready to get him started on his magical journey... and I discover that the computer proudly proclaims it's ATI Radeon Express 200 INTEGRATED GRAPHICS. CoD2 runs at 1 frame per second, and I wonder how I'm going to break the news that his brand new computer needs an upgrade. He also lost $40 at poker that day because he went all in on a flush draw against my two pair. So don't do that either. |
