Civ4's requirements are ramped up exponentially since the last Civ, and it also comes with a hilarious hair-trigger anti-piracy scheme that kept the games.yahoo reviewer from going beyond the title screen. But the title song is pretty damn good!
It's "Baba Yetu", and the composer has a mix posted on his site. It sounds like a mix between Circle of Life and the Cerebro theme from X-men 1 (the baba yetu composer did the score for X-men 2), and has impressive vocals. The most notable part, however, is its context. All of Baba Yetu - 'our father' - is just a rearranged version of The Lord's Prayer in Swahili. Since we all know the wonders colonization has done to Africa in the name of God, the only way this song could have been more biting is if it was done in some Native American language, I don't even know a specific one or if they still exist.
Or if it was used as the theme song to Civ4, a game where - you guessed it - you play 'civilizations' that come together and resolve differences through diplomacy and a spirit of giving. Giving, in the name of God. |
