Not because of the horror elements, but because of the awesome enemy squad AI and the relentless slow motion particles spraying from every single little parallax-mapped crater in the walls as you dodged bullets. Levels weren't exciting visually, but most of the face-offs happened in little mazes were you could really see those AI assholes splitting up and strafing up on you. Most fun I've had shooting people in the head in an FPS since Half Life 2, which was the most fun I've had shooting people in the head in an FPS since Half Life 1. A cheap health-system and a contrived plot sure did its best at fucking up the fun, but the roaring dynamic of its gun fights with cranked up graphics looks and feels nothing short of a healthy step up in FPS combat. |
