It's pretty damn good. So keep downloading it, joh.
Perhaps my favorite feature is the supression system, which ACTUALLY simulates the effect of covering fire. One of the interesting concepts included is in making all your weapons fire a little inaccurate (think of a middle ground between dod:s and BF2), so you can't simply plunk enemies in a single shot from behind walls for the entire game, gently suggesting to you that you shoudl help your teammates with covering fire while flanking to a good position. But you can still basically rip enemies in half with a well place M1 shot, it's just not nearly as easy as using the basic cover/flank/kill tactics.
The story is occasionally told from third person, with lots of voice overs from your character. Gearbox makes this work well considering that in a FPS game the HL2 example of never leaving first person is still the best idea ever. It becomes obvious why they only had 4 people work on the dissapointing Halo PC port.
I am glad to see Gearbox succeed at something original, after all the enjoyment I got from playing Opposing Force (.357 deagle WOOOOO) and Blue Sfih. |
