I still think Valve tested and bug fixed more than the average developer to make sure the RC wouldn't need any rejection, and Vivendi rejected it to delay HL2 at their whim, as they've done previously with many other games. The fact that Vivendi is naming their own release date means they probably know when they're going to suddenly decide to "accept" an RC.

On the other hand, this Steam deal probably fucked them over hard. Unless it's $49.95* because Valve plans to give Vivendi a cut of the Steam sales and be the good guys while Vivendi continues to be the very very French people that they are.
