This should be a good thing. Sadly, it may be the stupidest TMQ ever.
It's not surprising that he hates BSG, there's much to hate about that show. What IS surprising is that he hates it because of crazy things he imagines about the show, as opposed to what the show actually portrays.
First: I have no idea where he got this "single numeric code" bit. It's been a while since I saw the miniseries, but I gathered that the Cylons used Baltar's access to plant viruses in the defense computers so that they'd malfunction when the invasion came. Then the Cylon Raiders used a sort of virus-weapon to broadcast some magical virus to Vipers and ships whenever they were encountered to render them helpless. The "plot contrivance" that TMQ refers to is the fact that Galactica used NT 4.0 which didn't have an RPC vulnerability for the Cylons to take advantage of. Hur hur.
Second: Everyone knows only Baltar had access to the defense computers! Only he had "the code" so only he could have betrayed them! TMQ's lost me altogether with this. It makes me wonder if he's ever seen the show at all.
Third: Because the Cylons are clearly not going to be defeated *as an empire* by the humans, TMQ then extrapolates that they're invincible. Actually, Galactica has fought and won several battles with the Cylons.
Fourth: Why did the Galactica issue a friend or foe challenge to the Pegasus? Only Cylons are out there so THATS INSANE! TMQ was definitely not paying attention here. The sequence of events, if memory serves, was something like this: large radar contact detected, launch vipers, recieved IFF signal indicating it was colonial, scanning to see if it might be fake, issueing the challenge, recieving identification codes, verifying them, making a visual identification. Wow, talk about crazy.
Not mentioned: the stupid prophecy, the increasingly bizarre and nonsensical Cylon "plan", the actual (but very rare) lapses in military training, the mystery of how the fleet is still able to feed itself, the mystery of how the fleet still has ammo for anything, the crazy superviper they made on a lark, etcetera. |
