(For the record, Bennett was merely referencing “Freakonomics,” which posits the hypothesis that falling crimes rates are related to increased abortion rates decades ago—a position which I take it he rejects).No, he agrees, but feels that reduced crime doesn't justify or excuse abortion. He was responding to a caller who blamed the Social Security defecit on legalized abortion, and he wanted to nip that reasoning in the bud -- Bennett is pro-life and I read his statements as "don't go down that road, because the pro-choice crowd has better arguments there than we do." Levitt himself provides one of very few reasoned responses. |
