By offloading software physics processing from the CPU and GPU, AGEIA’s PhysX Processor completes the triangle of game function, graphics and interactive real-time environments from physics computing, balancing the load of these processing tasks and enabling incredible realism in tomorrow's games.

Wow, ragdolls on a scale never before imagined. And gravity guns galore. It's hard to tell if hardware is chasing software or vice versa, but all I can see is that once again we're all expected to upgrade our PCs if we want to get the most out of the two or three games a year that actually take advantage of this shit.

Hopefully it will be ignore by the industry like so much non-SB-compatible sound card.

The largest obstacle they are going to have to surmount is convincing developers that it's a better bet to write for a PPU than writing for dual-core processors. Since AMD and Intel are both roadmapping a future where two or more cores replace the One Single Kingshit Processor, then why wouldn't devs write to a second (or more, in the land of flying cars and death) full blown CPU? Also, there is a large push for GPUs to also handle physics and other types of off-CPU processing.

With all that said, Asus has signed up with AGEIA to make the PCI card. Though no word of the Mainboard version that was also part of the AGEIA press kit.
