Anti-tank shotgun-
Not as great as I had hoped. Have to unload half to all of a clip in close quarters in order to assure a kill. Have never seen a one shot kill with it (as opposed to the pump action engineer gun). You have to hold down auto fire to score a kill, but the massive recoil is going to send your sight pointing towards the sky in 2 or 3 shots.
The recoil on the DAO-12 isn't terribly bad, since the gun's wide spread basically compensates for it entirely. It takes 3 or 4 shots to take the reticle off of someone, by which point they should be good and dead. I've found the DAO immensly useful in city maps, where the ability to fire off 3 shots and kill someone before they can blink is very useful. Also, once you get the feel for the range and spread of the gun, you never spend more than 3 shots (and a half second or so) on any single target. Big benefit: being able to kill a squad of 4 in a Karkand alley in about as much time as it takes them to start turning around.
Also: Shotgun reloading, depending on your play style, is very useful. I like to always have a (near) full clip, no matter the gun, so the ability to reload after each kill is pretty useful. You can also interrupt the reload halfway through by switching to a different weapon and switching back (don't wait for the switch animation to complete). When you switch back, the reload animation will still play, but you can fire at will. Very, very handy for city maps.
Biggest complaint? No range. If you go with the DAO, you get very, very good at using the SRAW to snipe, or you get very, very dead.
While far from the best unlock in the game, it does turn the AT kit into one of the most versatile available. It gets amazing short range, great anti-vehicle (sure, tanks take 3 or 4 shots, but cars die in one. Don't underestimate that), good long range (SRAW sniping) and has armor. No fancy medkits or C4, but it gets the job done, and doesn't tend to suicide when doing so. |
