Hello. Is this a good solution for simple vga splitting? I don't have much desk space for two monitors. Am I better off with a "kvm" switch? I've never done this sort of thing before.

Is your KB and mouse USB or PS2? That's a PS2 that you linked to. Just be sure that you're buying the right one. My monitor has two inputs, one DVI and one analog DIN so I use the monitor to flip between the two and the iogear USB KVM to flip mouse/kb inputs between my two systems. The ugly thing is -and this isn't advertised anywhere- that I bought a new mobo (Asus A8NSLI) and it turns out after calling tech support that their KVM doesn't like the USB host controller on it - I had to buy a cheap CompUSA USB card even though I had 10 USB ports on the mobo itself. Also keep in mind that if you have a funky KB (like my logitech) with a pseudo-mouse (a scrollwheel on mine) then you might have to disable it in device manager to avoid conflicts. Other than that it's golden. If I want to switch to my Win2003 domain controller I double-tap scroll lock and hit the monitor input switch, away I go. This way I keep my gaming/main PC in LOCK all the time and if my wife wants to use a computer while I'm sleeping (hers is in the bedroom) then she can flip and work off the domain controller.

Bottom line is if you have simple and older gear then you shouldn't have any issues, it makes life simpler, just buy PS2 or USB to match your equipment.
