Global Frequency, The Filth and others by QB 08/29/2005, 6:44am PDT Global Frequency: People should try and get this, it's pretty good, latest compilation has The Frenchman kicking a guy in the nuts repeatedly before ripping his arm off (mmm, violence!). Narrative is normally the focus, but there's a couple of stories each compilation that's just nonsense but they tend to work best as the other stories are always "We have 5 minutes! ONOS it's all gone wrong!" 4/5 The Filth: Pretty much standard Morrison stuff, so a bit clever and tries to be twisty turny and nearly fails. Also: good art by Erskine. Highlights: President of the USA is forced to have breast implants and dance for Crazy Cult Guy, also: The Cat. 4/5 City of Silence: Classic Warren Ellis stuff, art by Erskine as usual, nothing too fancy or clever, just some psuedo-intel stuff interspersed with some generic dark future bits. Less swearing than Preacher. 3/5 For Marvel stuff, check out Powerless, it's pretty much "What If... all we've done for the last 60 years was just a coma patient's dream and all the characters are just "normal" people?! That'd be pretty Kerazy, huh?" but that title was too long, I guess. 2/5 I try to stay away from Marvel stuff ever since Earth X and Universe X where the Hulk was a giant ape in a nappy with a ten year old blind boy following him around (the Hulk/Banner split worked out not so well). Only good moment in the two massive books was "Spiderman? What happened to you, get bitten by a radioactive spare-tyre?" but I had to check out 1602 by Neil Gaiman. It's basically: We were doing really well having everybody be in the mode and period of 1602, but we didn't really have a story so..uh...let's stick in some Time Travelling? Main story: 5/5, ending: -40 bazillion/5 so an overall score of 3/5. Another good series to check out is Powers by Bendis, last book basically came out at the start and said "Women ruin everything!!" Often sweary, slightly different art style and good plots come together for...5/5! I'll and get some scans of these up but don't hold your breath.
