And by "see" I mean "play" perhaps after "making" them with an EXPERT MOD TEAM. But that won't happen. :(
MIGHT AS WELL WRITE THIS DOWN ANYWAY
So I was thinking about that one mech mod where you are in mechs. The idea I always wanted for these mech games would be some giant pervasive battle area, like the size of a whole state, and you would have two armies both commanded by generals which are commanded by "computer" players like an RTS, so you'd have territory lines that change in realtime according to how this overall fight goes, and the game would just sort of run itself naturally, keeping both sides in a stalemate. This would be so you could just wander into the frontlines at will if you wanted and try to capture more territory.
The missions would be like some sort of fuckin uh uh dynamically assigned to you by this computer "general" for your team (usually the role YOU would play in an RTS where you command troops to go here and do this or whatever). And you would walk from wherever you are to your mission point and do whatever like blow up this enemy building or rescue these dudes or capture supplies or destroy the enemy (or special missions where you discover a giant enemy tunnel ending inside your territory that you have to hold off an attack at and then help engineers collapse it, OR run through it yourself and attack deep in enemy territory, HMM). All while first person piloting a mech with weapons and shit, since this is supposed to be just a straight up action shooting game in a mech. Although you still earn upgrades for weapons and armor and ECM and stuff.
Also I thought it would be cooler for this dynamic state to not have some unlimited supply of enemies, but a real RTS style set amount of enemies that the enemy general would build more of at mech construction facilities. Destroying their mech construction facilities would naturally lower the amount of their mechs in the area since new mechs could not be built and reenforced there, the same with your army. And this would all happen dynamic realtime whatever in the game as it runs. So it's like a game where you run around inside an RTS as one of the constructed units. Except it is up to you to turn the tide of the battle by successfully completing your missions.
This leads into way more complicated ideas where it could be possible for you to retreat and lose territory, or eject from your damaged mech or be captured and rescued or escaping from prisons. And so to enforce these game rules you'd need to remove the quicksave feature. I dunno if I like where this is going though. :( ALTHOUGH in the normal game dynamic blah blah, with just the two computers battling it out alone (like say if you just sat there not playing, but watching the territory map), there would be some territory lost and gained and the occasional flank maneuver or massing forces, or a possible diversion tactic coded into these computer generals, as long as they'd be evenly matched and neither could win or lose by themselves. So it's possible that your retreating or being defeated in battle would just reduce some of your personal resources and upgrades, making you buy a new mech, and prolongue the game instead of having you lose the overall war. Then the save system would just be a sort of checkpoint autosave made every time you get to a friendly territory with a save point thing. And perhaps people could simply CHOOSE if they want to reload an old save from before a brutal asskicking, or be all purist and play it "legit" where they have to recover and buy a new mech and stuff. Perhaps there can be a losing game condition where your mech is destroyed and you don't have enough money to buy a new one. Again, IT'S COMPLICATED JUST TO THINK ABOUT IT. ~_~
Instead I will ESCAPE this crap by thinking about the beginning of the game, where you start off as a sort of mech sheriff helping your squad leader defend from some small time raiders, like a western where you'd stop bank robberies and shit. It would be a good way to introduce the system where you leave your mech and enter a building on foot and shoot people HL2 style. Eventually you are drawn into heavier conflicts further towards the front line and eventually you'll be leading charges to take enemy territory, and commanding your own squad. Yay!
Too bad this will never exist. :( |
