You sound like a guy who's dying to be asked for his take on that Greek jet crash.

I used to work in a suburban business park, my office connected to the highway by a 6-lane arterial road that forked into a sweeping left, a twitsy chicayne on the right, and my building (*) nestled in the fork:

|__________ highway

Posted limits were 80km/h, actual speeds were around 100 and you could safely go 130+ through the sweeper if you paid attention. The chicayne had an advisory speed limit of 40, with actuals of 70-90 attainable.

Suffice to say that our (ample) lawns were a magnet for wrecked cars. Many times during the summer drunk driving season, a workmate and I would stroll out to the newest wreckage and try to piece together what happened.

Two memorable matchups:

Mustang convertible vs. guardrail, sweeper side. If you've ever seen compressed-air-powered sheet metal shears at work (like on American Chopper), mentally replace the handtool by a mustang and the sheet of metal with 50' of guardrail. The car hit it end on and just sheared the rail apart from the ground, leaving a twisty 30' cutting hanging out in space. It looked like he lost traction in the rear wheels while negotiating the sweeper, went tight, overcorrected and shot into the rail on the outside of the turn.

Lexus SC300 vs. curb, chicayne side. OK, take a full set of glass panels for a Lexus SC300 and lay them out on the ground in a two-dimensional approximation of how a bird would see them in the finished car. Then, smash them into cookie-sized pieces. That was our first clue that something big had happened. Final conclusion was that the driver had put a tire on the inside (dividing) curb while exiting the twisty, and then he froze up. He went over that curb, across the oncoming lane, hit the streetside curb and launched into the air, hit on his nose 15' inland on our lawn, then tipped from nose-vertical to upside down on the lawn, leaving a glass-relief impresion of his car for us to find.

I'm not going to give you my take on the Greek crash, but I'll share a hint about my hypothesis: "Greek".
