Biggest problem I see so far is that it uses WildTangent spyware in order to run, so if you D/L it (twenny bones) and run SpyBot at any time, you gotta uncheck any and all WT hits or the game breaks and even if you fix it, you'll have validation problems because it's a D/L only game.
Fuck that guy, then. I assumed that eventually they would want money, even though I couldn't find a price anywhere on his download screen, so that is fine. In fact, if the thing is as addictive as people say then it's a brilliant move. But it's inexcuseable to involve spyware with something like this. I don't bother with major PC releases because they're all broken these days and now the "indie" games are all moving to this inane crap. Please allow me to briefly go all bombMexico on this page:
Is WildTangent spyware?
No, WildTangent is not spyware. Some of our games do collect anonymous usage information. We do this to determine what sorts of games people like, and how long they like to play them. This helps us create and give you better games for you to enjoy. The data that is collected includes how many times the game was played, and the average time for which it was played. This information does not contain any personal information and cannot be linked to any specific user.
What a bunch of smug fucks. Here's a quick Foxworthy on whether or not your invasive shit is spyware or not: if Spybot has an entry for it you might be spyware. If you're monitoring my PC for "usage stats" and sending it out then you might be spyware. If you're creating a webpage telling people your value-added utility is not spyware then it might be spyware. If it's sitting in my system tray alongside every other publisher's session reporting tool then you might be spyware. Here's all the info you're going to get on your new Nethack ripoff: it's played by about a thousand ugly men in their 30s and 10% will choose a gay class like cleric, priest or queen.
PC games are dead to me until Grimoire is released.
