Okay, then clarify something for me by Mischief Maker 05/14/2005, 4:19pm PDT
Something that irks me about Diablo 2 as I play it is that available equipment maxes out each act and you have to wait until the next act to improve. In Diablo 1 there was a steady progression of better equipment to keep you going. No matter how badass your stuff got, Grizwold always had a freocious bastard longsword of the horrible awesomeness +2 better than what you had and right at the edge of your gold amount.

In my current game of Diablo 2, the suit of banded mail I picked up at the very beginning of Act 2 has pretty much turned out to be the best suit of armor all the way through the final boss. Getting better equipment is more of a random chance occurance than anything else. I have never run across something more powerful alone than a 3-socket item stocked with the current act's level of gem.

Now is this just a symptom of Normal mode (which seems a little too easy to me with the exception of the end bosses) and is there better equipment and equipment progression in hard mode?
