If this would be remotely easier to do than the magical giant persistant world fairy mod, I dunno.
In a nutshell, it's like a Mechwarrior mod, where you stomp a mech around and shoot things and blow shit up and do missions.
It would not be a BattleTech universe game, though. There's no 50 DIFFERENT CONTROLLABLE MECHS (YOUR OPTIONS ARE YOUR CHOICE). You would probably start off with a dinky mech that would be used for guarding someone's backyard against rabbits, and move up to mechs that blow away entire cities or something. O_O
Here's a novel idea: a mech with 4 legs! So we start with a mech that is a spider. Then your weapons are more like in an FPS game, you scroll through the weapon you want and just shoot it, so it's more basic. As opposed to having weapon groups and alpha strikes and stuff. OR maybe you could have simple weapon grouping by scrolling through your weapons and left click to select the weapon to fire with the left click, and right click to have a weapon fire with the right click. Complexity could be added by having weapons do special attacks when combined and fired at the same time. Either that or you could have a weapon like a particle cannon that fires a normal beam with primary, and then secondary does some super charge beam that burns through its ammo super fast. Mech weapons would have drain times when firing them, and they would recharge their power or something before you could keep using them. Then you couldn't have a mech fire all its weapons real quick and be left defenseless. THAT'S PART OF OUR BACKSTORY YOU SEE o_o
One thing that would probably be really awesome is no matter what you put on your mech (since there would be a mechbay somehow to pick your weapons and stuff), you'd always have a salvage tagger, so you could fire a little tracking tag onto something you want picked up (like a downed mech, or a new mech weapon, or general mission supplies). Then a helicopter comes and picks it up, kind of like Mercenaries in reverse. But I was thinking of that space pirate mod where you would run around an enemy ship tagging things you wanted stolen.
The game wouldn't be 100% mechs, but there would be missions you do on foot, like raiding an enemy base. And you could still tag things you want stolen (then tag the ceiling with an explosive and blow a hole there, so the choppers can get to it). So that would be one mission type. And you can still shoot people, but then also attempt to screw up an enemy base, and maybe it would count as a captured zone in an attrittion thing. There could be branching missions and a small selection of what order you want to do them in, so we can claim DO MISSIONS IN WHATEVER ORDER YOU WANT, AND IT AFFECTS THE OUTCOME although it wouldn't matter that much besides having a small advantage in upcoming missions.
I still like the idea of doing a rescue mission in single player, where you don't rescue stuff by just a script or a cutscene, but you raid areas and get a bunch of people to follow you to a capture point, then someone picks them up or something. Or stomping a mech around some moon base and then jumping out of your mech and going into the base to blow people away, then you bring them back out and they get in a rescue moon truck.
Another possible mission type could be some kind of attrition area, where you have your area that you control, and areas that an enemy controls, and then your objective would just to capture the entire map. That could be like the "overall" mission in an area that you take last after doing the submissions that weaken the enemy in that area. Or you'd have those things with the submissions, and then another area would just have the big area that you fight to capture zone by zone.
Possible underwater missions with underwater mechs, or give mechs underwater capabilities? Or give your team a prototype mech that has underwater capabilities for a mission where you sneak up on enemies by taking some underwater path.
Perhaps a mission on a space ship that you are trying to sabotage or destroy (while tagging things of interest for salvage before decompressing the whole ship).
Another fun idea: crazy game universe lingo!
You would have friendly mechs at all times, except maybe one mission where you are alone or trapped somewhere perhaps. You could have friendlies around even in the foot missions.
Possible weapons: NO LASERS, instead there would be particle beams at least. Missiles. Machine guns. That usual stuff. Lasing things (like bunkers or huge bases) to get smeared off the face of the planet by attack satellites. Maybe nukes could be used, everyone loves nuking shit in a game. MAKE SURE TO HAVE AWESOME NUKE EXPLOSIONS, AND STILL AWESOME NORMAL EXPLOSIONS.
Anyway, these are the ideas. :( |
