"Where Is My Mind" is alright. "Caribou" is alright.
"Broken Face" is a great song. "Bone Machine" is a great song.
"Vamos" is a work of sheer genius, that improved on Sonic Youth's formula before they'd even figured it all out.
"Debaser" is simultaneously hysterical and dispassionate, equal parts retro and modern, and introduced a generation to the films of Luis Bunuel.
Listen: a composer/professor of mine once said that Beethoven was the most dissonant of all composers, because he broke up the moments of dissonance with moments of sweetness, and allowed the listener to have context and juxtaposition and really understand the dissonance. If you believe that (and I passionately do), then The Pixies are the most dissonant of all bands. And I like dissonant bands.
As far as knob-gobbling is concerned, I'd suck Kim Deal's cock any day. She could take Kim Gordon and Debbie Harry on at the same time. |
