If you're a comic book fan, it may behoove you to note that the game features the Ultimate X-Men versions of the characters, rather than the mainline comic versions or the movie versions.
Yeah, the removing Wolverine's mask is the big difference I've noticed, but I do not read the 'Ultimate' comic books because I think the concept is fundamentally flawed, so maybe there are more I'm just not noticing. It's stupid, but it's not worth getting worked up about.
The AI that handles your teammates isn't completely retarded, so that's a nice change of pace. I've only played for a couple of hours, so I don't know if this will get terribly repetitive very soon, but for now it's a nice alternative to screaming at the TV when I crash for absolutely no reason during Burnout 3.
Same here -- I'll report back if it does get repetitive. The thing is, the game is great when you're fighting but so horribly gay otherwise. I wanted to whack bad guys with my buddy -- well, you can't do that right away. It takes a half hour before you get to the first level with multiple characters (and even then you're limited to Cyclops and Wolverine). You then spend a lot of time moving "Magma" around, who is a teenage girl. You are able to have some "girl talk" with Marvel Girl! Excellent! Just what I was hoping for! I thought I staved off this fruity crap by not buying TheSims2 but I did not do that! I understand there's a junkball simulator out there which is pretty cool!
I doubt there is anyone from Raven within ten clicks of this site, but seriously: having your friends wait around for you to complete a solo mission is very stupid; either take out the co-op play or leave it on all the time. The "magic" of my guy there beating the crap out of a bunch of no-name Brotherhood thugs would not have been even remotely slighted by the ability to knock these fucking nobodies around with my pal. I know nobody has ever tried things this way before, except for the teams gone rogue who gave us Double Dragon, Double Dragon II, Double Dragon III, Final Fight, Xenophobe, Golden Axe, Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, Gauntlet IV, Gauntlet: Legends, The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fighting Force, The Avengers, Contra and that "X-Men" side-scrolling co-op arcade game so the market research isn't quite there, but as trust is what is at the heart of the issue between man and mutant, it should also be there, maybe, for customer and developer.
Also, the spoken dialogue is embarassingly bad if anyone else is in the room, so maybe the one-player thing at the beginning is for the best.
