Other than this one brief scene during the intro, it didn't scare me at all. The fact that the game's on rails but keeps giving you the impression you're missing out on important stuff irritated me. I hope you like the howlers (generic jump-straight-at-you melee enemies) because this game has a fuckload of them. I quit around this point where I was stuck in a howler infested monastary and had to pass through a room where a steady stream of 20+ howlers pile in and destroy the framerate.

I'm told the game gets better in the end, but the wow factor was so low I couldn't muster the energy.


Yeah it stopped being scary early on, but at least there was a solid shooter to back it up unlike SS2's clunky mess. The game does go overboard with the howlers, but on the plus side they remain the ONLY melee enemy in FPS's that isnt a total fucking joke you can just backstep every time they take a swing at you. They can do a flying lunge and attack the instant they stop to swipe.

Other than that the only complaints I had about the game was the uneven pacing (5 hours till the first boss, then a boss every hour past that), the TEDIOUS monastary in the past level (I got so fucking lost trying to get out of that), and the shield spell being too powerful and taking all the challenge out of the game. Fighting the last boss is also a total chore where they almost take a puzzle like approach to taking him out. I read a FAQ on how to kill him and I still couldn't tell if I was damaging him or not, until he just died half an hour later.
