So they fixed the "[yourname] attacked tk_victim" bug as well as a bunch of other bugs that I didn't know were bugs. This fixes exactly 100% of all the trivial bugs and 0% of all the serious bugs with the game.
Serious bug #1: If there are more than four people or bullets flying on my screen at one time, I experience what my netgraph tells me is 'choke'. This means that nothing I send to the server gets through, so my furious RUN AWAY! motions never push me back into the safety of the tunnel in dust. This means that when I left-click on my mouse, the message to shoot the T in the head is received sometime after I die a quiet, screaming death. This means that shotgun blasts must be placed either somewhere in front of, or somewhere behind the enemy--I've never figured out which.
This basically means that the game is functionally unplayable on any serious level. Once the game gets to 15+ people on the server, my strategy is to either wait until most everyone dies (thus negating the ill effects) or to find a camping spot and ambush someone. I still miss, but you can't blame me--everything I'm doing is on an invisible 0-3 second variable delay.
Yeah, the effects are this bad.
No, I'm not behind a router, and no, I'm not running a spam zombie process or seven, and no, I'm not on a second-class Internet connection, and no, I'm not connecting to a slow server.
This happens to every server I've joined. And yes, I've read up on choke help forum topics.
This sort of subtle but devastating bug is crazy--because the engine runs smooth, people think they're getting good pings and good FPS and thus good net performance. But they're not, they just have client smoothing enabled.
Blah.
Enclosure: screenshot of typical gameplay performance--yes, I just got flashed rushing the tunnel as a CT. Note the choke at the bottom right of the screen!
