The Media Play store in the local mall just shut down. I guess I kind of saw it coming with their not too efficient seeming business model where they tried to be Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and Toys R Us all in one without specializing in any.
What these means is the only stores to buy games in the area are now limited to Target, Walmart, and EB. Target and Wallmart never have the newest stuff I want, so I broke my vow and stopped in the local EB to see if they got Dawn of War in yet.
-Two skinny pale kids wearing all black asking each other what game they preordered. When they both answer "San Andreas", they high-five each other.
The setting: western Massachusetts (remember this for later)
-See "Coming Soon 9/21" sticker on Dawn of War boxes. Decide to ask if it's in.
-Got in line behind THAT GUY, the one you always end up behind who holds up the entire line as he gets into an in-depth discussion of the five dozen deals and promos the clerk is trying to sell him on. Added bonus if he goes through the time consuming process of trading in used games, which he was. Super extra bonus if he's shocked at the trade-in value and actually tries to haggle, which he did.
-Clerk tries to offload strategy guide to customer, telling him that "you really DO need the strategy guide. You can't find it online (wtf? you can find online guides for games that came out a decade before the internet even existed -Fab), and even if you could you need all the pictures to see what you're doing. I have a friend who's playing it and he was totally lost until he got the guide."
- Finally get to front and ask if Dawn of War is in, like their boxes said it was.
"No, it got pushed back to Thursday because of hurricane Ivan"
