The most beautifully animated philosophy lecture I've ever been to.
Seriously, the animation is insanely rich, detailed, and gorgeous. The movie is about 90% philosophical meandering, 6% action, 4% gore. If you didn't like the first one because it was dull and pretentious, you will really hate this one, which even removes all the T&A. If you are the kind of guy who likes to make desktop wallpaper from screenshots, you will love it. What really drove me apeshit was the soundtrack, which is highly derivative of the soundtrack from the first but does not complete the tone poems - musical phrases end at irregular places and frequently seem disconnected from the theme.
I would probably watch it again, but I like to watch people play video games for hours on end too. This movie is like all the cutscenes from a lavishly produced video game strung together. Oooh, another warning: it's difficult to follow in places and will make even less sense if you haven't seen the first movie and the series. |
