Hobbyists designing web pages using HTML is boring, tedious and generally only of interest to the person doing it, consequently I have a great deal of experience with this subject.
- As mentioned, that barebones link is where we all get started. Print it out and put it next to your monitor.
- Along with barebones, I find this to be really useful.
- O'Reilly's HTML & XHTML: The Definitive Guide is great.
- When I first started I read some stuff here.
- Whenever I see something I like I hit "view page source" and figure out how they did it.
If you're hosting your stuff with Chet over at POEhosting, or your host gives you "mysql and php" there's some nice free stuff out there you can set up in a few minutes.
Test your page with every browser: watch the effect it took you 2 hours to create just so completely fail in a smattering of code, images and text! |
