No to mention that to play Quake-style games well is an art; RPG elements do not necessarily make a game "smarter".
On the other hand, I, sir, resent your attempt to paint those who like adventure games as equivalent to those that like System Shock 2, as that would be to question the quality of both The Longest Journey and the Monkey Island series. Which, of course, must not be done, as they R00LED and such.
