Just saw it. Will see it again, but not as many times as I saw T2.
Definitely better than Matrix: Reloaded (havn't seen a movie this year that isn't, though). For some reason, the scenes of the T-X slowly stalks its prey didn't give me the same feel as the T-1000 did in T2. I attribute this to three factors:
1. Something to do with the CGI being revolutionary for the first but old for the sequel, similar to The Matrix vs. Matrix: Reloaded.
2. The soundtrack didn't give me the same raised-hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck that T2's did.
3. Kristin Lokken has nothing on Robert Patrick. When Lokken speaks, it sounds and looks overly mechanical. She didn't make me believe that she was a machine, she made me believe that she couldn't act. Patrick did far more with what he had. From his "say, thats a nice bike" (compared to Lokken's "I. Like. Your. Gun.") to his shaking his finger at Sarah Connor in the foundry, Robert Patrick scared me a hell of a lot more as the T-1000 than Lokken did. Lokken comes off as a really mean bitch-computer with a nice rack that we never get to see (despite it being an R-rated movie). Patrick, on the other hand, came off as pure fucking evil. Mix this with the soundtrack and the revolutionary CGI, and T2 was much better at keeping me on the edge of my seat than T3.
Of course T3 was rife with "why the fuck did they do that" isms, and "wow, thats a stretch" moments, but those are found in every movie these days.
Arnold is a more "tongue-in-cheek" in this one, but overall is less entertaining than T2. Don't get me wrong, he's still great at portraying the stone-faced machine killer, but there was more to him in T2 than there was in T3 (culminating in T2's "I know now why you cry, but it is something I could never do"). I blame this on the script, though.
Now, biggest problem with the film:
What the hell was Edward Furlong doing that was so important that he couldn't be bothered to re-take the role of John Connor. He was a HELL of a lot better than whoever-the-fuck the new guy is, especially when it came to scenes involving any emotion. Some would call these scenes the essence of acting, I call them "MAKE BELIEVE YOU'RE AFRAID OF FUCKING DYING, THATS ALL YOU NEED TO DO. CHRIST, I COULD DO A BETTER JOB AT PRETENDING TO BE SCARED!" moments.
Summed up:
worth seeing at least once; multiple theater viewings and/or DVD purchase is up to personal preference and your desire to own all three Terminator movies (just wait for the Special collector's edition trilogy).
Rating: 4/5 (had it been anything other than a "Terminator" movie, it would have received a 3/5)
