| I started this remix of my friend Craig's band Canine Sugar's song "I Don't Wanna Go To Sleep" about a month ago, after hearing Fatboy Slim's great 7-minute dance mix of "Brimful of Asha". Since then, two things have happened. The first is that I spent too much time on it, and lost my place, so to speak. The second is that I've heard/seen the light of hearing some electronic artists (Manitoba, Four Tet) whose music I actually love, which completely shifted my paradigm, and if I were starting this remix now, I would never go the same direction with it.
So, the end result of that is that I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing on this remix, and I'm shitcanning it. But, since I spent so goddamn long on it (note: though it sounds pretty straightforward, this version of the song sounds almost nothing like the original) here it is (again) for your listening pleasure, up until the point where it dies out. After all that work I can't stomach the idea of not showing it to anybody. It seems to me that a good remix mixes the best qualities of the original song with the best qualities of the remixer. That's not true in this case - I, using powerful digital tools, seem to have surgically removed everything I liked about the original song. Yarg. FoK |
