People, I want to read a Vietcong review (http://www.vietcong-game.com) from you.
Played it on a LAN party (no not 300 smelly kids, just ~16 leat dudes): Multiplayer was very funny, we never got past simple deathmatch. Singleplayer goes something like this: you enter the game without a clue what to do, everything is green, you go some way and die to some random mexican. Repeat. Granted, I was drunk off my ass, but I had yet to encounter a game that wasn't fun when drunk. Vietcong wasn't fun so I deisntalled after 5 minutes.
Don't listen to him, he's German.
It's cool, although it's definately more fun for multiplayer than singleplayer. The singleplayer campaign is fairly engaging(watch out for those punji pits, soldier!) but there's a couple of punishing tunnel missions that taint the overall experience. That, and your character's voice actor is a homo. You know, for such a grizzled special forces veteran he sure sounds a lot like Robin, as voiced by Mark Hamil - seconds after he blew Mr. T. on a dare.
Those things aside, VC manages to bring home a very immersive jungle feel with probably the most satisfying shooting model outside of the Tom Clancy games. Look for multiplayer games with "vietnam mode" turned on, and if you're so inclined, hit the pipe right before you hop in a server.
There's a demo here, give it a whirl. |
