Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030

Hip hop of the highest order. Dan the Automator creates luscious, incredibly emotional sounding tracks, and some artists I’m not too familiar with rap over it. To be honest with you, I have the Instrumental version, which has no rapping, and I love it. It’s fantastic and everything I want from an instrumental hip hop album. It is not nearly as repetitive as others I’ve heard, but really has a life of its own outside of the rapping. In my opinion, the first track alone is worth it, entitled “3030”.

I'm not buying that "hip hop of the highest order" quote, but it is a good album -- it's definitely one of those hip hop albums that people who normally listening to indie rock seem to rave about, which makes it a little suspect to me. Other entries in that genre are "Handsome Boy Modelling School" (also with the Automator) and any album by ODB. At least "3030" is one that you can enjoy without being ironic.

Hit and miss. Some of his stuff is, pardon the gay, like crystalline purity. Sometimes I do feel like a waterfall, yes. Of the tracks I've heard of his, there are quite a few that are surprisingly melodic, given how you've described him. In a related vein, have you checked out Tim Tetlow?
