Having 'morals' is inherently conservative, as they are based on tradition and religious values. I know that probably sounds like a word game or nitpick, but that really is why I see him that way - demonstrations of moral outrage are the kind of things idiot (insert religion you have little regard for here)s do. The secular individual is amoral.

I don't know. I'd bet the farm he'd vote for a Democrat (pro abortion, anti-gun, pro homosexual etc) as in virtually every litmus test he fails to fit the conservative/right wing mold. Just because you don't like him does not mean he is of the opposite camp necessarily.

I don't really see eye to eye with your last statement either, although I certainly have been accused of being amoral in the past. I don't think moral outrage is something conventional religions monopolize, as "secular religions" like marxism, feminism, etc tend to manifest the same brand of irritating bullshit. I suspect the link lies more in the extremism of any faith, secular or otherwise. Some who will remain unnamed claim to be able to maintain a distance from such behaviour by disassociating from society and overintellectualizing everything. But I think the same instinct just shows up in different, ultimately similar ways.

I agree he is a populist and a demagogue, and you're right his moral outrage might be feigned for the purposes of remaining populist. As for tearing into a public defender - WTF is up with that?

It was really wrenching to watch. The guy was incredibly decent and patient, and Fucking O'Reilly was in full spittle and gesture mode. O'Reilly was trying to claim that because this guy had done his job defending some perp in a child abuse case a decade ago, where the state's evidence was flimsy at best and it came down to he-said-she-said basically, made him responsible for the later acts of the criminal (10 years later, where he did something awful to another little girl, this time proven beyond a reasonable doubt). It was sickening.

Right up there with John Ashcroft having no fundamental concept of the Constitution. How do these people get elected/airtime? Although, Ashcroft lost an election to a dead man . . .

You couldn't let sleeping dogs lie, could you?
