It's just like how Lifetime movies are all about pathetic stay-at-home moms whose husbands have affairs and plot to kill them: they're written in such a way that the targeted audience is in the feature role.

Interesting, that in his favorite horror novel of the 70's (as of his writing of Danse Macabre), Peter Straub's Ghost Story a large portion of the book takes place with a little girl in bondage.
