It's really more a question of prioritizing. I think hentai is too much of a niche thing (even in Japan, I don't think tentacle rape is anywhere near as predominant as, say Hello Kitty), and so fucking absurd that anyone whose concept of reality is significantly altered by that was pretty much going the wrong way anyhow. By comparison, the news media, constantly bombarding people with images of atrocities around the world, even moreso now that I am seeing many more foreign news services, has a much greater impact, for instance. Especially when you consider how devoid of context or background all these snippets of gore are, the fact that they are happening in real life (with notable exceptions being the charming fake "news when there is no news" shit) and people can sit there and eat dinner to it must have a far greater impact than any number of animated schoolgirls being assaulted.
