Computer boots, few seconds into desktop aol instant meesenger gets an error and closes, few seconds later whole system freezes up. Reboot. Error message saying windows/system32/config/setup was missing or corrupted and could not boot.
Tried booting from the disc and repairing it like it recommended and it puts me to the repair console, which is essential a DOS prompt. Okaaaaaaay......now what?
My only other option I guess is reinstalling windows totally, but I'd really like to avoid that hassle. If it turns out I must reboot, are there any directories I should back up before reinstalling? I've heard anything in the My Documents folder gets clobbered if you reinstall. Second question, HOW would I back things up? The only browsing I seem able to do is through the DOS prompt repair console thingy, and that doesnt display directories for some reason. I have a LOT of stuff I need to back up from My Documents.
Anyone? |
