The very first EVAR version of Oregon Trail was a text game, and REQUIRED YOU TO TYPE THE WORD BANG to shoot a deer.

To further annihilate your argument, in BG you couldn't get cholera, but you could get a secret degenerative poison which suddenly killed you in two weeks game time unless you performed a difficult multi-step Fed Ex quest. Which, in my game, was bugged and didn't work, so I had to start the game over about halfway back before I ever slept a night in the city of Baldur's Gate.
