www.waxy.org is the (first? biggest?) website known for hosting the Star Wars Kid videos. The blogger reports that 1.1 million people downloaded the "embarassingly good" videos. After some people started leaving "nasty" comments which were quickly deleted, the blogger decided to clean his conscience by starting a fund to buy the 15-year-old humiliated kid an iPod. Wired and the New York Times (!) picked up on the story of such heart warming philanthropy. They're BOTH heroes in my books!
I left a comment on the site, but it was explained to me that everyone is laughing WITH him, not AT him. People sure are uncomfortable when they realize they might have hurt someone's feelings.
SPEAKING OF HURT FEELINGS...
I think I've discovered the apex of LiveJournal, and it's The Exhalted. This is actually a reformation of an old group called "Non-Uglies" that got suspended by LJ, but they've since reformed (hey, why does that feel familiar?) with the same mission statement: to be the hottest bunch of LJ users. The entire point of the group is that they're hot, and you're not, and if you want to get in, you have to get "stamped". You submit a bunch of pictures of yourself, and the members (keep in mind: they're hot) vote yes or no. With enough yes votes, you get stamped and you're now one of the Exhalted. Too many no votes, and I suppose you kill yourself. Once you're stamped, you apparently participate in the community just by posting pictures of yourself and talking about how hot the other people are. It's everything that's great about blog all located in one convenient place. Like a mass grave.
Conversely, this is still the best blog ever.
(trivia: the "remix" version of the Star Wars Kid video was done by Raven Software's Bryan Dube. A programmer(?!) On SoF2) |
