Former general manager of the Buffalo Bills during their Super Bowl run, current GM of the San Diego Chargers. The guy was really overweight, but as it turns out he died of lung cancer. I had no idea he was battling it. Kind of a shock, I guess I thought he'd have taken a leave of absence from his job like Krause for the Bulls did the other day.
Anyway, the guy was a hell of a GM. Drafted secondary help a little too often in the first round, but was pretty good at identifying talent from small schools. And even when Buffalo came down off their Super Bowl appearances, they were never a 3-13 laughingstock or otherwise a complete embarassment. On the other hand, he played a big part in getting Doug Flutie famous in the USA again, so if you're particularly anti-mullet, well, that's not exactly in Butler's favor. But you definitely can't fault him in any given year for not giving his coach plenty to work with. Quality guy. |
