| Holy fuck is this game just way too fucking hard in single player. I'm no slouch in FPS games but Jesus H. Christ this game just takes my ass and kicks it all over town like like some kind of ass-kicking machine. Turn corner *BLAM* dead. OK, reload - turn corner carefully with lean this time. *BLAM* dead.
FUCK. OK, go back to planning stage, make sure I'm carrying flashbangs. Toss flashbangs around corner, turn corner . . . Nobody there. FUCK. Turn next corner *BLAM* dead. Repeat ad nauseum. In case you haven't gotten the idea so far, the single player on this game is not just difficult, is is absolutely infucking possible to beat on medium difficulty without losing a member of your team. I've made it to mission seven with many, many hours of playing and I simply cannot get past it. Most people, judging from the game forums dedicated to this game, get seriously fucked up on the oil rig and can't get past it. Well those people suck, OK? I only had to play that mission through somewhere between fifty and one hundred times to beat it without losing a team member. Unlike previous Rainbow Six games, there are no 'generic soldier' team members available to chew up slots when you want an extra gun and KNOW somebody's gonna die, either. No sacrificial lambs on this one. Fortunately, the multiplayer is incredibly fun. Good maps, doesn't seem to be many cheaters yet, and the system just works. I'd go so far as to say that of all the 'realistic' FPS games out there (Counter Strike, America's Army, etc.) this one just barely edges out Vietcong for the most fun online experience, and that's quite an accomplishment. I reached expert-level multiplay with the demo and now in the full game I'm a newb again and you know what? I managed to enjoy both multiplayer gameplay as a newbie and as an expert. How rare is that? If you're all a fan of Counter-Strike, America's Army, etc. this one is definitely a buy for the multiplay. Do not play the singleplayer though unless you are looking for the most goddamn frustrating experience since Medal of Honor's sniper levels. --SB |
