Ok, so I just got enough space on my computer to start playing this game. The tutorial and manual are pretty anemic. As far as I can tell there is exactly one faq/walkthrough on the entire internet regarding this game. I thought it was more popular then that. Anyway, can someone who’s played answer me:
1. Do you have to physically pick up every piece of equipment you find on a map you want to scavenge, or is there some type of auto salvage (ala Mechwarrior) when you leave a zone?
2. I keep hearing you can shoot through walls/floors. I can’t seem to fire a weapon without picking out a selectable target. I can target doors windows with grenades (cool), but can’t just toss them wherever I want (like next to a wall.) Same with guns. Is there a way to fire at non-targets?
Favorite moment so far: My scout threw a shuirken through a broken window, it ricocheted off a wooden table, left a mark, and hit a solder right in the face.
1. Yes, you have to pick up items manually. This will become tedious at first, as your early weapons suck and the enemy has better weapons (mostly true for the Allies). There is no auto salvage or screen at the end of a map that lets you drag and drop loot into your soldier's pack. The expansion pack will have this.
2. It's tricky and I've never done it too much, but if you press 'A' and then keep clicking on a spot, your character will shoot there. If you spot an enemy, but don't see him (you see the red holographic image of him), you can shoot at that too.
Since you just started, you should be warned about the expericence bug. Your characters will level up normally, but their skills won't progress as fast. If you were to play ten missions and then check your squad's stats vs. those in the roster that you didn't choose, the roster characters will have superior stats.
There is a second party patch that helps with this problem, check the JoWood forums for info. I remedy this by using my squad until the roster characters have 100 in their primary skills. The problem with that is their selectable skills/abilities are completly random and useless, instead of guided towards the good abilities.
