I liked it enough, although its not up to the standards of the second one. I mean, considering the kind of crap RPGs that the SNES was loaded down with, it wasn't exactly lower end; it was middle of the pack at worst, and the transformation/combination stuff worked pretty well. It's not like it was 7th Saga or some shit like that.

(the SNES with Japanese RPGs was like the Genesis with Amiga conversions: some amazing stuff that had never been seen on console before, but a ton of filler crap.)

I guess I feel the same way about Beyond the Beyond. Not the greatest, but it tided me over as the first PSX RPG. Can't understand why it's universally hounded as the worst games EVAR. I could name half a dozen crappier RPG's off the top of my head, let alone games in general.

Wouldn't know; never played it. Kinda like Legend of the Dragoon, I was warned off.

Although sometimes warning off can steer you away from decent games: Legend of Mana had a ton of fucking problems, mostly revolving around incredibly deep but poorly documented weapon, item, and magic creation systems that were unnecessary to finish the game the first time around... but it was worth $20 and a week of screwing around with.

Come to think of it, LoM is exactly why PC games need to stay around, or the Xboxen and their hard drives need to be more commonplace. A PC game like that with decent systems coupled with weak difficulty would be a perfect target for modding and/or total conversion, but (most) console games don't allow for that. Hell, hacking in a real weapon creation documentation system would have improved the game immensely.
